GREATER VASA PARROT~
~ an interesting characteristic

The feathers at right demonstrate the pigment change in the feathers of the female Vasa Parrot as breeding season approaches. The feather at right is a normal dark grey feather. The feather to the left is a light brown feather from a hen in breeding condition. This is possibly due to a chemical change in the oil which is secreted from the oil gland used in preening.
